Working in faith

I go to work every day for several reasons. Providing for myself is a major motivation for giving my best effort. My role in cybersecurity has changed over time. It's a rewarding field where I can make a significant impact on my organization. There are moments when I question why I work for such large companies and whether my contributions will be remembered.

I come to work as a human being to show compassion to those around me. Holding others accountable, just as I am held accountable, is challenging. Being held accountable, in particular, can be difficult. It's an essential part of my personal brand. Whenever I feel like I'm not making a difference, I need to step back and reassess the situation. Perhaps my ego is getting in the way. On one hand, my work is about me, and on the other hand, it's about others. So, how do I contribute without making it all about myself? Here are some checks I try to remain aware of. Here are some ways I work in faith.

Tips to work in faith

  1. Provide for Myself with Excellence

    • My daily effort is rooted in the need to provide for myself and my future.

    • Doing my best ensures I can stand behind the quality of my work.

  2. Recognize the Evolving Nature of My Role

    • Cybersecurity is a field that changes constantly, and so has my role.

    • Each shift brings opportunities to grow and make a measurable impact.

  3. Remember Why I Chose This Path

    • Even in big companies where my contributions may feel small, my work matters.

    • I remind myself that impact isn’t always immediate or widely recognized.

  4. Show Up as a Human Being

    • Beyond technical skills, I come to work to show compassion and humanity.

    • My presence should leave others feeling valued and supported.

  5. Embrace Accountability

    • Holding others accountable and being held accountable myself is challenging.

    • It’s also central to my personal brand and integrity as a professional.

  6. Check My Ego

    • When I feel like I’m not making a difference, it’s often my ego talking.

    • Reframing the situation helps me focus on contribution rather than recognition.

  7. Balance Self and Others

    • My work is partly about me—my growth, my career—but it’s also about others.

    • I aim to contribute in ways that serve the organization and people, not just my own goals.

  8. Work in Faith

    • When I feel like I am frustrated I keep in mind that I work in faith that God is my supply. I have my good days and bad days but I always work for God.

FINAL THOUGHTS

At the end of the day, my work—and yours—is about creating value, showing up with integrity, and remembering that our impact goes beyond just tasks. Organizational changes will always come, but when we consistently contribute with purpose, we stand on solid ground no matter what shifts around us.

For me, it also comes down to this: I work for God, not just my employer. That perspective keeps me grounded. I can make a difference not only in the quality of my work but in how I treat people every day. Each person I meet is an opportunity to show them they matter and to affirm their value. That’s the kind of impact that lasts far beyond any organizational chart or job title.
